Exercise Physiologists don’t just target the affected area

That’s right! Unlike many other treatments such as some chiros and physios who often only treat the symptoms, Exercise Physiologists look at how the whole body impacts on your condition such as how your hips may be the cause of the pain in your knees or how your lifting technique may be leading to your back pain. This whole-body examination leads to a more effective treatment of your condition and gets down to the root cause of it.

Exercise is the future

Every day more research is praising the positive effect that exercise can have on the body and the different conditions that effect it. Due to this, many health professionals in particular GP’s are starting to recognise that a structured exercise program should be included in their patient’s treatment plan. With exercise starting to become more of a regular treatment avenue, Exercise Physiologists will become more relied on to deliver this treatment in the future.

We don’t just focus on the rehabilitation

But I thought you only developed exercise programs for people?

Not true! An Exercise Physiologist has studied to look at your health as a whole and how everything you do, feel and think impacts on your wellbeing. For example, we like to find out how your mental health may be impacting on your recovery or how your behaviours at home could be slowing your healing and discus ways to help improve these aspects of your life. This allows us to increase your whole wellbeing and help you live a long and happy life.

We can perform pre and post operation rehabilitation as well as long term rehab

The common belief is that Exercise Physiologists only treat chronic conditions. However, Exercise Physiologists are well trained in all stages of the rehab process and in a lot of cases may get better results earlier on in the treatment due to their focus on their client’s whole wellbeing and not just the effected area. Also, for a lot of people the prospect of an upcoming surgery and its subsequent recovery can be daunting. This is where an Exercise physiologist can guide you through the whole rehabilitation process from start to finish and give you an idea of what to expect.

We are also human

All being said and done Exercise Physiologists are people just like you who enjoy what they do and like to make your rehabilitation as fun as possible. Like everyone they can make mistakes but are determined to get you back to doing what you love and avoiding any future problems that may come up.
