Is your body ready to get back into exercise?
You might finally be getting back into your regular workouts or thinking of kicking off a new exercise routine after some time off. Either way there are a few things you need to consider before rushing back into your favourite routine. If you haven’t done any exercise for the past few months chances are you will need to assess where your current exercise capacity is at. Detraining can occur in as little as two weeks and can affect your muscle size, strength and endurance.
Pacing yourself
It is important to remember that if you attempt to jump straight back into your previous exercise routine you increase your risk of injury. We recommend taking it slow for the first 2 weeks and then progressively increasing the intensity of your routine.
Employ appropriate recovery strategies
Beginning and exercise routine will also come with the challenge of muscle soreness. Do not be disheartened by this as it is very common, particularly in the first couple of weeks as the muscles adapt. To assist in recovery and reduce muscle soreness we recommend light exercise and foam rolling. In addition to this, it is also important to consider nutrition and hydration.
